By adding on, opening up, and adding copious amounts of traditional moldings and detailing, Clark Construction transformed the main living areas of this home creating beautiful yet extremely functional spaces. They’re warm and elegant; spacious enough for parties of fifty crazies and cozy enough for an intimate dinner for six.
No matter where you stand, an interesting architectural element catches your eye, whether it is the coffered ceiling, a round window, the arched entry into the family room, or specific design details in the kitchen.
A fun project for us, and one of which we are very proud.

The little used screened porch was removed and replaced with a media room addition. Stone facing coordinates the foundation with stone walls that run through our New England towns. The deck was expanded, and wide steps descend to grade, integrating the yard and the deck as outdoor space for large parties.

The new kitchen space draws you in with the bank of angled windows, the juxtaposition of the island and the perimeter cabinets and its coffered ceiling. The large granite island is well suited for party buffets and is a great place to grab a cup of coffee and read the paper. The client says that she still stands back and is awed by the fact that it is exactly what she wanted, although she was not able to initially conceptualize what that was. We consider this to be the ultimate compliment.

These rooms were previously small and dark. Now natural light pours in. The kitchen living room and the media room are open to one another, combining to form a great room that provides plenty of elbow room for entertaining. At the same time, the individual rooms are cozy, warm and welcoming. A stone fireplace with traditional moldings draws you into the living room through the stately arched opening. The entrance to the media room is purposely different: complementing moldings highlight a squarer opening, providing a level of interest and defining the space creatively.
